Rania Rangou was born in Athens, Greece in 1970. She studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Athens, Greece (1989-1994) and at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain (1994-1995). She has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. She lives and works in Athens.
Within a spirit of soft tension and a sense of vertigo, where irony and sometimes sarcasm have a predominant position, Rania Rangou’s works are trying to upset established communication habits. Altering the form of figures, seeking for a conceptual and morphological challenge, by overturning the usual structure of a painting, Rania Rangou touches on the very sensitive issue of information and communication in our times.
Traditional painting idioms are set free and start moving with the times thanks to the painter’s willingness and capacity to transform everyday language in so far as its syntax, its grammar and therefore its conceptual known structure are concerned, and the important thing here is that this has been done through painting.
